Cicada Worksheet Packet
Cicadas are such a wonderful part of summer! In fact, the woods behind our house is filled with their calls right now!
I thought I would put together some cicada worksheets, notebook pages and a lapbook so kids can learn more about this fascinating insect!
Some facts about cicadas:
- Did you know that there are over 2,000 types of cicadas?
- While most insects live less than a year, cicadas can live as long as 17 years!
- In the U.S. there are two main types of cicadas, periodical cicadas and annual cicadas.
- The cicada’s mating call can hit 100 decibels or more which qualifies them as one of the loudest insects found anywhere in the world.
You can print out either the notebook pages and questions sheet, the tracing pages or the fill-in-the-blank pages. (Whatever works best for your kid/s.) Plus, there are pieces to make an interactive notebook or lapbook all about cicadas!
I also wanted to include BBC’s short documentary clip about the 17-year periodical cicadas. We ♥love♥ David Attenborough’s documentaries! We watched both Planet Earth and Blue Planet in our homeschool for science and highly recommend them! (affiliate links)
Update: Brood X, the Great Eastern Brood: I have added new notebook pages about Cicada Brood 10, the 17-year periodical cicada group that will be emerging in May-June 2021 in the U.S. There are tracing pages, fill-in-the-blank pages as well as the full-text notebook pages.
