Tsunami Activity
Our next activity was to recreate a tsunami. In a flat pan, the kids built up a sandy beach (sand, corn flour) and built little houses.
Then they added water and created an earthquake. It didn’t work when the kids hit the table with the bat, but when the table was given a good shake the tsunami hit
fill force!
We looked at the photos later, they were really impressed! I explained that water often pulls back away from the beach during a tsunami right before the giant waves hit with full force!
We did this activity when the kids were quite little to help them understand how destructive tsunami’s can be. A number of years later, we covered Natural Disasters again. I made this Natural Disasters Packet with worksheets and hands-on activity ideas. It is currently free to download!
