Where I Live Activity Packet

Where I Live Activity Packet!  My galaxy, solar system, planet, continent, country, state, town, and home!

Where I Live Activity

This packet contains a booklet and an interactive notebook activity to help kids understand where they live — from our Milky Way Galaxy right down to their city/town, street and home!

With the help of a number of other homeschoolers around the world, this packet can be used for students in the following countries:

  • the United States,
  • Canada,
  • the United Kingdom,
  • Australia and
  • New Zealand.

Just be sure to print out the correct pages (listed in the packet!)

What age is this for? Originally, I thought that this was for ages 4-8, but I had my 10-year old (5th grader) do it and it was *really* good review for her. She really enjoyed it.

I had my daughter start with the interactive notebook activity. (This picture was on our first day of school!).  She drew our house (for My Home).

Where I Live Activity - Drawing our HouseThen over the next week or so she did the other pieces.  We looked on google and she drew a picture of the streets in our neighborhood (for My Street).  She traced our state and then located our city (for My Town/City).  She colored in our state (for My State). She colored in our country and continent and traced the sentences for My Planet and My Galaxy.

The interactive notebook activity has 8 pieces. (These pieces differ slightly for other countries. The U.S. version is shown below.)

There is also a Where I Live booklet. My daughter was really excited by this.  She loved decorating the Milky Way (with glue and glitter)!  She also worked on this over the course of a week or so (just because we had a lot of other subjects we were covering).  As you can see by the photo below, there are different page options depending on where you live (currently this packet has options for the U.S.A, Canada, the U.K.,  Australia and New Zealand).

Where I Live Activity – Booklet: You print the booklet pages out (one sided!!), have the students fill in the information and decorate their pages, then they fold each page in half and staple the booklet together on the left side. Here is a close up of what is contained in the booklet (bits of information about the universe and our galaxy, the planets, Earth, the continents, countries and so forth!

Once the booklet focuses more closely on the continent and country, there are different pages that you can print out if you are from Canada, the U.K., Australia or New Zealand.  (If you are from a different country and want me to add your country into this packet, drop me an email and I will add it to my to-do list! 🙂  ~Liesl

P.S. If you have preschoolers, you might want to have your kids work with a FREE Montessori World Map.  My kids used this pin map tons, when they were little!  (And we sang the 7-continents song as they placed the continent names onto the map.) We have a free printable map here: Free Montessori World Map

After finishing this activity, ED went on to review some basic facts about the U.S. — and singing songs including the U.S. Presidents song and a song about the mountains, rivers, and other U.S. features!!   I’ll share some of those activities in the next few days. 🙂
