Muscular System Unit – Worksheets and Activities
My daughter just finished the Muscular System Unit and I wanted to share the new worksheets and notebook pages that I added to the Muscular System Packet.
Did you know that you have more than 600 muscles in your body? This packet goes over the three main types of muscles:
- smooth muscles
- cardiac muscles
- skeletal muscles
Students will learn voluntary and involuntary muscles, how these three muscle groups work, and the functions of these muscles.
This packet also touches on how skeletal muscles are named, different neuromusclar disorders (like spasms, cramps, sprains and tendinitis) and diseases (such as tetanus, fibromyalgia, and ALS). Finally, students cover how the muscular system works with the other body systems.
My daughter really likes booklets. (See the photo below.) This packet includes options to create the half-page sized booklets:
Directions for making the Muscular System Booklet:
- Print those pages out one-sided
- Fold them in half.
- Bind along the left-hand side.
There are also full-size notebook pages provided with this same information if you prefer to have your students place these pages in a 3-ring notebook.
Choose the style that suits your needs best!
Muscular System Hands-On Activities
We did a couple of different hands-on activities with this unit:
Make a model arm!
Directions:
- Using card stock, cut out an upper arm.
- Trace your child’s hand and create a piece with the hand & lower arm.
- Attach the two together with a brad.
- Place several paper clips along the edge of the arm and tape them down.
- Take a piece of yarn and tap it to the middle of the hand. Run it through the paper clips.
- Pull gently on the yarn and watch the hand raise.
Arms are third class levers. The string is our muscle, the elbow is the fulcrum, and the load is in the hand.
My daughter also did a hand-on hand project! She worked on this on her own and was so proud of her final project!
