Great Preschool Printables Website

I was looking for the alphabet and number cards with certain themes — fall leaves, snowflakes, and penguins.  I stumbled across this terrific website that has all kinds of beautiful free printables: Communication 4 All.co.uk. Some of the early learning themes include space, pirates, minibeasts, animals, dinosaurs, under the sea, castles, India, months and seasons, the water cycle, and other themes. Just thought I’d share my discovery in case someone...

A Day in the Life of Our Homeschool

A Day in the Life of Our Homeschool

Someone asked me what our homeschool schedule looks like.  At first I was happy to write about it.  Then the more I thought about it, the more stressed I became.  Practically EVERY day is different here at the homeschool den!  We have a general routine, but I’m just as likely to scrap it and take the kids out for a hike, outbush, to a playground or to the desert park...

Music with Tots and Preschoolers

We had our little music session as usual this week. The rhythm sticks below are just wood dowels that I cut down and sanded on the ends. We explored different ways of tapping them together (high, low, on the ground, on our head, end-to-end, etc.) Then we played our rhythm sticks to a fast-tempoed song. The kids all really like the knee-bouncing songs. This week we said the nursery rhyme...

Preschool Letter Activities

This week I’ve been putting a letter sorting activity in DD’s workbox. I chose a small toy/item, wrote that word on a piece of paper and had the first letter of that word (in lower and upper case letters) that she had to sort into rows. She’s also been finding the letters to make words and has been quite motivated to do that. Other related posts you might be interested...

The Prepared Environment

As homeschool parents we are always looking for a way to organize our school materials and keep the kids on track each day.  And, we are looking for ways to encourage independent work for our younger kids.
