Busy Week 0

Busy Week

We had a really busy week this week. Among other things we went to a museum with friends.  The kids absolutely loved the hands-on portion. Since the kids had their gymnastics as well that day, they practically fell into bed that night!       Please like & share:

Oh so sick… 6

Oh so sick…

This has been a very hard year for us.  We’ve been here in the house just 8 months and we’ve had upper-respiratory infections, the flu, pneumonia, strep — twice, ear infections, weird rashes (all of this hitting most everyone in the family)… and this past week we’ve had gastro (my guess is rota-virus).  It started with ED early last week. Then we went out of town to visit Grandma and...

FairyTaleBooks 8

Fairy Tale Unit: Rapunzel, Hansel & Gretel, Three Little Pigs Activities

These are the two fairy tale collections we’ve been reading from.  I highly recommend the one on the left, Treasury of Classic Children’s Stories. (affiliate link) (Update in 2015: All three of my kids loved, loved, loved the fairy tales in Classic Children’s Stories. At first I read them aloud, later they read them to themselves. In fact,  ED now reads the stories to herself and the book is on our kitchen...

A Blogging Break 2

A Blogging Break

We have been having so much fun lately that I haven’t felt like blogging.  The kids have thrown themselves head-first into a gardening/plant/sunflower unit. We’ve been working on our outdoor garden, planting seeds (indoors), lapbooking, reading lots of books about plants and gardens… and so much of this is directed by the kids that I’m just along for the ride! Anyway, all is well here — just busy (in a...

Update on my wounded relative who is a Marine 4

Update on my wounded relative who is a Marine

Another quick update: R had surgery (one of many, many he’s had in the past week) a couple days ago to attach the muscle to the bone. Apparently it was very painful.  That coupled with the fact that they found a blood clot in his lung, R is having a tough time.  My prayers, love and hugs to R.————- I wrote a short post about my cousin’s son who was...

Just sending love to my family and other wounded Veterans 8

Just sending love to my family and other wounded Veterans

Goodness, I’ve been completely stumped on a title for this posting. Maybe I should have just left the title blank because that doesn’t seem quite right.   I  have always been extremely close to my cousin.  We’re three weeks apart in age and that made us have a very special bond/connection growing up and on into adulthood. She had her kids at a young age and I had the privilege of...

A few of DD’s Activities (K) 0

A few of DD’s Activities (K)

It turns out that DD has pneumonia and an ear infection as well. She’s been sleeping LOTS these past 10 days. Only today did she show interest in resuming work on her penguin lapbook. But she’s been pretty amazing — and has kept up with her reading and math most days despite being sick. She’s to the stage that she picks up books to read on her own as well....

Age 3 activity 4

A Few of ED’s Activities (Age 3)

ED turned three this week! Happy Birthday Sweetheart! ED still enjoys this math activity.  She does it with snowflakes and Christmas trees — now I’ve made up the same activity with heart stickers and beautiful heart erasers from Oriental Trading.  She really gets the one-to-one correspondence now. We play many, many rounds of Cariboo together.  This game is just perfect for her.  Each card has a shape (triangle, square or...

Sigh… 0

Sigh…

Our entire family needs a collective sigh of relief.  We’ve been hammered and as a result we’re just plain tired.  Let’s see, so I wrote about the furnace going out. Then LD got a virus.  Well, the day he felt better, I got a slightly different virus. I was so sick I had to call Dad home from work (last Friday).  By midafternoon I couldn’t get out of bed.  I...

Little Math and Letter Activities 2

Little Math and Letter Activities

LD is slowly on the mend. He had his first bite to eat in more than two days a bit ago. Meanwhile, here are a few things ED did with me this morning. I pulled out a few of the letters from a large letter floor mat, introduced them to her one at a time and called out a letter for her to jump to.  She and DD enjoyed this...

Poor Buddy

LD is quite sick–hasn’t eaten for two days, is lethargic, feverish and sleeps most of the day/night.  Will update soon.  Poor guy. Please like & share:

No Heat! Oh My! 0

No Heat! Oh My!

Here’s the scene: Our furnace has been on the fritz!  This morning it was a chilly 59F/15C degrees in the living room area and even colder in our bedroom! (Nowhere near as cold as it is outside, though.) Everything is draped in ice. It’s actually quite beautiful. Except that EVERYTHING is covered in ice. Imagine backing out of our garage… and driving up THIS driveway!  It took nearly an hour...

Our First Snowman 2

Our First Snowman

LD sledding down our driveway the day after the snowfall.  Not only did the UPS truck get stuck up at the top of the driveway (because the hill continues on up even past the crest of our driveway), but the next evening hubby had to help the Fed Ex man get out as well! Please like & share:

We’re Enjoying the Festive Season 2

We’re Enjoying the Festive Season

The kids were all born in Australia and there was no snow in the Outback. Today was their very first snow experience!  What fun! We got about three inches; it snowed all day and we were in and out of the house until late this evening. ED loved licking the snow while LD scared me with his daring dashes down our steep driveway on the sled!  The woods sure look...
