Herbivore, Carnivore and Omnivore Worksheets and Activities

Herbivore Carnivore or Omnivore?

I have added a new 20-page section on herbivores, carnivores and omnivores to the Animal Unit.  This new section includes notebook pages, sorting cards and a herbivore, carnivore and omnivore sorting mat, as well as  identification worksheets.

Kids will not only learn the basics:

  • Herbivores eat plants.
  • Carnivores eat meat.
  • Omnivores eat both plants and meat.

but will also learn about some of the adaptations that make them adept getting their food!

If animals all ate the same things, there wouldn’t be enough food to go around.  Animals have different adaptations that help them get the food they eat. This packet looks at animal adaptations including teeth, claws, talons and beaks.

Herbivores Carnivores Omnivores Worksheets Activities Sorting CardsThe notebook pages come in two versions. There are tracing pages for younger students and fill-in-the-blank pages that you can use with older students.

Herbivore Carnivore Omnivore Notebook Pages WorksheetsWhen my kids were younger, they enjoyed doing sorting activities.  There are Montessori 3-part cards and a sorting mat in this section.

As many of you know, we have a 75+ page animal packet that is about the different types of animals (vertebrates, invertebrates), animal characteristics, insects vs. spiders, domesticated vs. wild animals, animal tracks and much more!

There are notebook pages and sorting cards about animal body coverings: feathers, fur, scales and skin. This section includes a couple of notebook pages about why animal’s body coverings are so different.  Younger students can use the tracing pages provided.  There is also a set of sorting cards and a sorting mat as well as a practice worksheet for the different types of body coverings.

I also added in some fun pages about Animal Tongues. (Those are on pages 63 to 75.)  If you’re scratching your head about that… my kids — especially my girls, really love learning about animals.  I thought it would be fun to talk about tongues as we start off our digestive system unit this coming semester!

There is a page where they have to identify “Whose Tongue?”  And, there are some notebook pages that talk about the many functions of animal tongues… from eating and drinking, to smelling and cooling themselves down. Again, there is a tracing page for those of you who are using this unit with younger kids.
