This is the first in a series of three Consonant Blends Activity Packets. This set focuses on the L-Blends such as bl, cl, gl, fl and pl. There are practice worksheets that include tracing, write in the consonant blends (bl, cl, fl, gl or pl), write in the words, and cut-and-paste activities. There are consonant blend sorting cards and a sorting mat. Plus, your kids can then use these cards to play a board game and to play consonant blend bingo! 🙂 My kids always loved different games and activities and would beg to play more! I found that it was a wonderful way to keep them engaged!
These are all consonant blends used at the beginning of a word. They include words such as
BL: blimp, blender, blood, block, blanket blueberries
CL: clock, clown, clam, claw, clothes, cloud
FL: flat, flip flops, flame, flag, flashlight, flower
GL: glider, glass, globe, glasses, gloves, glue
PL: plant, plug, planet, plane, plate, plumber
Here’s another look at some of the L-Blend Worksheets
How to Play the L-Blend Board Game:
Place all the game cards face down in a pile. Players take turns picking up a card. They say the word aloud and determine which L-blend is being used. They then move their token to the next space on the board with that beginning sound (or if they chose a wild card, follow the directions on the board). Then the next player takes a turn. The first player to land on the final space wins the game!
L-Blend Bingo Game:
Print out the bingo cards (laminate and use a dry-erase marker or cover the squares with tokens). Shuffle the game cards (but remove all the wild cards!). Each player takes a turn turning over a card and identifying the L-blend. ALL players all chose ONE of these blend spaces and marks it off of their bingo card. The first player to get one row covered wins! (You can make it harder by having the players mark off two rows before calling out bingo!)
This L-Blend Packet is about 20 pages.
As I mentioned above, this is the first in a series of three. The next set will be R-Blends for practicing words that start with br, cr, dr, fr, gr, pr and tr. The third set will be the S-blends (sc, sk, sl, sm, sn, sp, st, sw). When I release the next set, you will automatically get an email from SendOwl, the delivery service I use (to your PayPal email address). You can always email me if you need help.
The price of this (growing!) Consonant Blend Bundle is just $2.00. You can expect the next set of R-Blends in early December (or sooner if I can manage it!). I hope to get the S-Blend set done before the end of the year at the latest. Eventually this set of three will be $5.99

This set came about because a reader asked if I had some games and activities similar to the spelling sorts, but for her younger daughter. If you have any special requests of pages you’d like added in to this packet (well, or anything in general!), be sure to let me know! ~Liesl
