Our Care Package from the Gambia!

The Internet is so wonderful because you connect with and make friends with people from all over the world.  I’ve made some good friends through my years of blogging with whom I email pretty regularly.  One of the friends we’ve had for years live in the Gambia… and they sent us a care package that fit in absolutely perfectly with our studies of West Africa!!  The kids were SO SO excited by this incredible package.

The kids took turns pulling things out of the bag… We spent a lot of time looking through the tourist brochures.  We have been reading about the transatlantic slave trade and were intrigued to see a tour that includes a slavery exhibition and a tour of the slave fortress of James Island.

Here are some of the other treasures they sent us: a toy monkey, a flag of Gambia, carved wooden elephants, a doll, a fan, stamps, and a drawing.

Now we’re getting our package ready to send to this family… with goodies from the Outback of Australia (where we used to live) and a few things from where we live here in the U.S.

We participated in other country box exchanges a number of years ago when we lived in the Outback. We sent off a package of aboriginal art, Australian coins and things like that… Here are some of the things we got in exchange…

My kids have loved doing these!!

Thank you to our wonderful friends in Gambia for making our studies totally come alive! We love you!
