Summer Science Experiments – Tasty Lemon Soda
If you’re trying to find a way to keep the kids occupied this summer, why not turn to science?!! There are so many experiments you can do together with your kids. Or if you’re like me, you can hand them a book and they can do it on their own! LD (age 8) flipped through a science experiment book and was excited to make his own Lemon Soda!
What to do: Put equal amounts lemon juice and water in a glass. LD put in 1/3 cup lemon juice and 1/3 cup water. Add sugar to taste (LD put in 2 or 3 teaspoons, he said!). Add 3/4 tsp of baking soda. Watch it fizz. Taste the bubbles! [From 730 Easy Science Experiments.]
I bought several books to have on hand for the kids in our homeschool. LD got the 730 Easy Science Experiments from his friend for his birthday last year. That’s where he found the Lemon Soda activity. We love, love Janice VanCleave’s books and have a couple of them semi-permanently stored in the kids’ workboxes! Most libraries probably have one or two VanCleave books on their shelves. We got ours used from Amazon.
I also made a packet of some of our most beloved science experiments.

I think it must be the hot weather, I have a lemon-related drink post going live this week too (don’t worry, not the same one; ours is way less scientific!). When it get this hot out, lemon drinks are definitely the way to go
