Easter Themed Montessori Math (preK, K)

‘Bead’ Rabbits and Skip Counting by 10

EasterMontessori math has kids working a lot with beads. But for this work, I made some Easter-themed manipulatives for ED to work with.   I made a set of Easter eggs for skip-counting by 10s. She also used some 100-square rabbits. I printed out a number of copies and cut them into strips of 10 and into single bunnies as well.  It’s just an Easter themed version of using the Montessori beads.

Here are some of the things I did using these bunny ‘beads’ and Easter eggs:

First I took our place value numbers and had ED sort them into rows of 100s, 10s and 1s. (We have a set of these type of cards in our Addition/Subtraction Bundle). I had them from our Right Start math curriculum.

Then she practiced finding numbers like 200 50 and 3 and stacking them to make 253.

Then we separated them out again and found 2 hundred bunnies and 5 ten bunnies (50) and 3 single bunnies.

Here is the same task more or less, but I wanted to show that I have her stack the numbers to make 257:

ED also worked on skip counting by 10s. First she lined up the place value cards, then she matched the Easter eggs to them. As she did this we counted 10, 20, 30, 40, 50…

We’ve been practicing having her count out 3-tens for 30 or 5 tens or 5 tens for 50. We use the bunnies and eggs as we did that. (You can tell ED cut out the eggs! Gotta love the green finger from painting.)

Here are the sheets I made. Unfortunately the bunnies come out with bits of black on them (it’s particularly noticeable on the yellow bunnies). It was that way when I originally made them. Sorry. Not perfect but functional!

And the Montessori 100 Bead Bunnies are here. I suggest you print them out on cardstock. You can print a square of bunnies on opposite sides of the paper (reload the paper and print them out again). I would suggest printing out about six or so leaving 4 hundreds, one cut up into 10s and one cut up into 9 tens and 10 single bunnies.  I leave one square whole to show 100 bunnies, then cut some of the bunnies into strips of 10 for ED to work with. You could go farther and cut the bunnies into single units to build bunnies by 100s, 10s and 1s (building 257 visually with the bunnies).
